St. Michael Catholic School Celebrates Dedication of new Campus!
September5,2013
On Wednesday, September 4, Daniel Cardinal DiNardo dedicated and blessed the new St. Michael Catholic School. This celebration marks the completion of the Building on Faith and Formation Capital Campaign: a two-phase campus expansion and renovation. Attending this memorable occasion in the school’s history were distinguished benefactors, parishioners, parents, students, alumni and friends of St. Michael.
The dedication ceremony is the culmination of four years of focused collaboration by the St. Michael parish and school community. Donations to the Capital Campaign totaled over $27 million to make necessary improvements and additions to the St. Michael campus. The St. Michael Catholic School student body held their own fundraising campaign, collecting change in bulldozer shaped piggy banks. They raised over $6,000 to donate to the construction efforts.
Built in 1954, before air conditioning and the explosion of electronic technology, the original school building reached its limit in terms of effective renovation and improvements. The new school meets and exceeds the physical requirements of modern day educational facilities.
Highlights of the new building include:
A 70,000 square foot energy efficient building that achieves LEED certification.
State of the art technology including two computer labs, mobile labs, interactive white boards and more.
Two fully equipped art rooms and a kiln room.
Addition of a Pre-K3 program to meet the growing demands of the community.
Library including media center and resource room.
Larger cafeteria with outdoor eating space and newly equipped kitchen.
Regulation athletic field for football, soccer and baseball, practice track and gymnasium including boys and girls locker rooms and two concessions stands.
A school chapel which is central to our daily life and curriculum, which offers an area for reflection and spiritual development.
Dedicated performing arts classrooms and lecture hall.
Science labs capable of expanded plant and animal studies and more in-depth lab experiments.
