Please save the date for Mock Trial to be held on Thursday, February 14 at the Family Law Center in downtown Houston.
Each Eighth Grade literature class has been preparing for its Mock Trial presentations during library time (Mondays from 1:00 P.M. to 2:20 P.M.). Representatives from the Houston Bar Association and law students from South Texas Law School, the Bates College of Law at the University of Houston, and the Thurgood Marshall College of Law at the Texas Southern University have been working with the students for the past month. Each class will hold a murder trial (that they have written and created) at the Family Law Center. Every student will have a part in the trial either as a court official (judge, bailiff, clerk, or attorney) or as a witness for the defense or prosecution.
The students have learned about the trial process and the simplified rules of evidence, and they are really looking forward to the trial date and performing for their parents and special guests. They also will take a tour of the Criminal Courts Building and will hopefully get to visit one of the courtrooms where an actual trial is taking place.
