St. Michael students are getting involved in the upcoming presidential election in a big way this year by holding a mock election. The mock election is an interactive way to get St. Michael students involved and actively thinking about the election and the voting process.
Students in Kindergarten - 5th grade will be voting for the White House Pet. Candidates this year are a Golden Retriever and a Longhorn Steer. Posters and campaign speeches will be given in the Tiger Gym on Monday. Fourth grade students are also working on presidential scrapbooks.
Middle School students will actually be voting for the real presidential candidate. During Social Studies periods, Ms. Wood has discussed the candidates platforms as well the Electoral College. Students will hold debates on Monday covering the various campaign issues. Mrs. LeJune will also incorporate the election into special Math projects.
The mock election mirrors the voting process right down to receiving a voter registration card and casting their votes in a real voting booth. St. Michael students have been preparing for the election by discussing the voting process in the library and reading about new presidents each week.
