Thanks to all those who helped to make our Open House a huge success!
We would like to thank the Physical Plant Committee of the School Commission, who, under direction of Monsignor Rossi, formed a new Aesthetics Committee to help with the visual cohesiveness of St. Michael School. The first order of business was a cleaning crew which was hired to clean all the doors and exterior of the classrooms, the 4th, 5th and middle school lockers and the middle school windows, and remove the blinds on January 19th. That which was not included in the paid cleaning crew was completed by the Parent Clean up, which took place on January 24th.
A wonderfully dedicated group of about 15 mothers and some of their children came and washed windows and cleaned the insides of the windows of each of the classrooms, the exterior windows of PreK, 1st, Duff and Culberson windows. They did a beautiful job. The Open House was decorated by an accumulation of committees, including the Performing Arts, Art a la Carte, and several other PLUS volunteers. These volunteers gathered all the items for the grids, hung photographs printed from several volunteers that highlighted the best that St. Michael offers the incoming and current student. They spent all day Wednesday setting up the display grids in the PLC for the different areas accented: Sports, Religious, Uniforms, Academic Events, Special Events, Scouts, Library and Arts. Please walk by the bulletin boards in the 4th and 5th grade hallway, as well as the brand new display case in the hall by Mrs. Polzer’s office that displays all the great things about St. Michael. The children are so happy to see themselves and it is collecting lots of fingerprints!
The Cafeteria is a sight to see, with Scriptures hung all around (which Father Chris suggested). It is such a happy place for the kids to eat. The School Commission Communications Committee hung up 2 beautiful outdoor signs as well, one facing the parking lot reading with our school’s mission statement and one in the cafeteria about respect : “Take care of yourself, Take care of others, Take Care of this holy place!” There are two new wall decorations in the Middle School if you haven’t been told about them. Also suggested by Father Chris, one says “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path” (Psalm 119-105) and the other is “All who thirst, come to the water” Isaiah 55:1. Thanks to Paula Winter and Annette Boatwright for brightening up the halls of the middle school. Also, thanks to the 8th graders who were the “feet” on the path, Jophiel, Andrew, Nicole and Amber. Any suggestions or comments on the Aesthetics of the school can be directed to annetteboatwright@gmail.com of the School Commission Physical Plant Committee. Thanks again, everyone!
