The SMCS Cheerleaders recently attended and competed at the UCA (Universal Cheerleading Association) 2015 Summer Camp at Texas A&M University in College Station. For four days, the girls learned and perfected cheers, chants, dances and stunts that were then performed during competition on the last day of camp. Under the leadership of faculty members, Holly Bennett and Deana Crain, the team won overall first place in the Middle School division for their cheer! The team was judged on their excellence in cheerleading technique, skill incorporation and performance ability.

In addition, two team members, Athanasia Giannitsopoulos and Dannie Carty, competed in a “jump off” competition and six team members were nominated and competed for All-American Cheerleader: Athanasia Giannitsopoulos,
Lauren Perales, Sarah Ditto, Alexa Kristan, Frances Boatwright, and Dannie Carty. Congratulations to Alexa Kristan and Dannie Carty who were both named UCA All-American Cheerleaders.

The squad also received the "Spirit Stick" one of the highest awards at UCA camp all three days in a row! Way to go Tiger Cheerleaders!
